Vision,mission& values

RECLAIM is a bold charity committed to building a fair and just world for and with all working-class young people. We do this in three ways:

  1. Community: Creating spaces that grow a sense of belonging and solidarity.

  2. Campaigns: Challenging institutions, systems and structures.

  3. Consultancy: Supporting organisations to become class-inclusive.

Our vision

To create a fair and just world for working-class people.

Our mission

To build knowledge, power, community and solidarity with working-class young people and campaign on issues that affect them the most. Working-class young people are the heart of our organisation, and we are proud to maintain a youth-informed approach. Working-class youth thoughts, views, and advice always shape our programmes, strategies, and operations.

Our values

1

Solidarity

Our relationships with young people and our communities allow us to stand together. Our bold, intersectional approach enables us to understand people’s experiences, backgrounds, opinions, attitudes and knowledge.

3

Appreciation

We create pride in working-class identities and celebrate the backgrounds of everyone connected to our organisation. We understand the space we occupy in the wider movement and champion the work of others.

2

Accessible & clear

Language is powerful, so we ensure our words and actions are inclusive - welcoming feedback from everyone who connects with us. We remove barriers and meet the needs of young people to support their participation.

4

Critical & curious

We approach our work with a critical and curious lens, engaging in reflective practice to ensure we always learn and adapt. We encourage and support young people to be critical of the world around them.

5

Interdependent

We share resources and knowledge beyond our organisation, collaborating with others to overcome a shared problem. We learn and grow with our young people, and support them in developing independence.

Unfamiliar with the term working-class?

Working-class means different things to different people, but for RECLAIM being working-class is characterised by four key factors:

Twitter What do we mean by class.png

While working-class people have many of these things in common, we're a diverse bunch, too. Working-class people are:

  • Different races and ethnicities

  • Different sexualities and sexual orientation

  • Disabled

  • Migrants, refugees or different nationalities

  • Various religions or no religion

  • Different sexes and genders

We share many different characteristics and beliefs. But we all share the same experience of growing up facing those four factors.

why does class matter?
